CHIRP Radio Presents:
♫ All Belle, All Night. ♫

Back in 2009, inspired by a reference in the John Cusack movie 'High Fidelity' set in Wicker Park, hundreds of hand silk-screened posters hit the streets of Chicago, each featuring a local musician, artist or personality with a quote from a Belle & Sebastian song. The mod-style design of the prints were influenced by Belle & Sebastian album art and created an instant buzz. A website was launched (belleandsebastiannight.com), which allowed fans to create their own personal album art using their webcam and submit the photo to social networking websites like Facebook & Twitter.

All of this effort culminated in a live event featuring the music of Belle & Sebastian performed by various local bands and DJs. The event also featured free live t-shirt silk screening and a mod-style photo booth to commemorate the experience. The goal was to create the next generation's "Smiths Night" and thus Belle & Sebastian Night was born.

It's 2011 and Belle & Sebastian Night is back.

Featuring an all Belle live performance by CANASTA w/ special guests.

Four years have passed since the release of We Were Set Up, the record that cemented Canasta's place as a staple - perhaps even the unspoken centerpiece- of Chicago's orchestral pop scene this millennium. But according to the ChicagoReader, the wait has been worth it: "...this local sextet's new full-length, The Fakeout, the Tease and the Breather, is so perfect—every note falling into place with deeply satisfying craftsmanship—that you'll swear you've heard it before. But you haven't..." Making use of a collaborative songwriting process that relies on all six musicians, Canasta has always augmented the standard rock set-up with an piano, keyboard, violin and trombone. But despite an ever-changing roster that has included nineteen members(!), founders Matt Priest and Elizabeth Lindau continue to keep the lyrics thoughtful, the orchestrations meticulous, the melodies unforgettable and the sound uniquely "Chicagoan." 2011 looks to be the band's busiest year yet, including a sold-out, headlining show at Chicago's Old Town School, a win in The Deli's "Best of Chicago Fans' Poll," a recording session for Dayotrotter, an ambitious music video for their single, "Mexico City," and an upcoming tour this Fall.

"Rock music has always had a contentious relationship with club land, but these days, those barriers are all but non-existent. In Chicago, Heaven Malone has been a great contributor to breaking down the divide."
- Time Out Chicago

Heaven Malone is a resident DJ at Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz's rocker bar Angels & Kings. Located inside The Hard Rock Hotel in downtown Chicago, this notoriously decadent Bret Easton Ellis inspired party is justly called "Disappear Here". Disappear Here features up & coming DJs & producers along with the occasional celebrity up for sacrifice. Heaven also maintains a residency at Die Tonight at Beauty Bar, where every month it's Halloween. Die Tonight has seen it's fair share of zombies and beach babes, meat cleavers and swimming pools, superheroes and sleepovers with professional movie makeup artists to cover them with gore and blood. Heaven currently runs The Black Lodge VIP Room, a super exclusive party, hidden deep inside The House of Blues Chicago. And a new Saturday night residency called WHITE HORSE is launching September 3rd at Ultra Lounge.

From throwing Marilyn Manson's absinthe fueled Mardi Gras party to having Justice spin a secret New Years Eve warehouse party, Heaven Malone has been influential in the Chicago underground music scene. Next up on his agenda is a performance at the coveted Lose Control Party After Hours at SXSW in Austin.

Heaven Malone has produced DJ events and after show parties with Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars, Ministry, Dragonette, Danny Masterson, The Juan Maclean, Justice, The Faint, Ladytron, Dan Black, Butch Walker, Felix Da Housecat, The XX, Shiny Toy Guns, Passion Pit, Pete Wentz, Marilyn Manson & many more.

With Welsh-born Elia as the ringleader, The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir is a free-spirited collective of musical visionaries who turn out exuberant and rough-hewn chamber pop. Over 50 musicians appear on the band's Bloodshot debut The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, including core players Ellen O’Hayer (the band’s cellist and vocalist who moonlights in Bright Eyes’ touring band,) bassist and recording engineer Mark Yoshizumi, drummer Jay Santana, violin player Ethan Adelsman and Sam Johnson of Mucca Pazza and Head of Femur on trumpet. The extended Scotland Yard family is comprised of a who’s-who of the Chicago underground music community, boasting the likes of Sally Timms, Nora O’Connor and Kelly Hogan, who sing backup on the album, and Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley), Matt Priest and Megan O’Conner (Canasta), and Brett Whitacre (Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers.)

In a few short years, The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir has become one of the Chicago indie music scene’s best-kept secrets, with Chicago Sun-Times critic Jim DeRogatis opining upon “Jennie That Cries”, the single from the band’s debut i bet you say that to all the boys, “[it’s] a beautiful, lulling single, with special emphasis on the gorgeous vocals.” The band’s music has served as a backdrop to many television shows, including The OC, What About Brian and the movie Special, and their self-released debut received attention from Time Out NY, Billboard, and Popmatters.

Elia has a special place in his heart for Belle & Sebastian, befriending the band and even being featuring in one of their music videos. Elia runs several DJ nights throughout Chicago and is the found of THIS IS ENGLAND* party.
